Center Director Professor Dan Esty traveled to Singapore earlier this year to spend several weeks as a visiting lecturer at the Yale-NUS College. Esty spent the first half of the spring 2018 semester teaching, while also engaging with scholars and stakeholders at events across Singapore to explore issues related to international climate change law and policy.
The Environmental Performance Index (EPI), was released January 22nd in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. YCELP Research Assistant, Lucy Kessler, sat down with the Zach Wendling, the EPI Principal Investigator, to discuss the 20th anniversary of the Index and his key takeaways from the report.
Last year, global trade accounted for 60% of world Gross Domestic Product. However, in addition to contributing to GDP, the global trade regime is also responsible for a wide array of environmental impacts–including natural resource damages, pollution and climate change.
Kicking off Climate Week 2017, Dan Esty, the Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy (YCELP) moderated a panel titled “Unstoppable Force” that explored the role of states, cities, and businesses in implementing the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

On February 24 and 25, hundreds of students, professors, and practitioners from across Yale University and the world gathered at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (FES) for the 2017 New Directions in Environmental Law Conference. Jointly hosted by FES and the Yale Law School, the conference is an annual student-run event that explores legal and policy dimensions across specific themes.
