Center Director Dan Esty Participates in State Street's ESG Forum

Center Director Professor Dan Esty participated in State Street’s ESG Forum earlier this fall. The forum, held in Boston, brought together experts in ESG investing and explored the challenges and opportunities faced by investors in the era of climate change.

Professor Esty spoke on The Transition to a Low-Carbon World panel. Other panelists included Jay Koh, CEO of The Lightsmith Group; Bridget Realmuto LaPerla, Head of ESG Research at State Street Associates; and Nathalie Wallace, ESG Strategist at State Street Global Advisors. The panelists discussed the current state of climate investing and what new opportunities lie ahead. Rob Klee: States are Role Models for Fulfilling the Green New Deal Vision

The Green New Deal proposal has provided a vision of what a sustainable future in the United States could look like. Introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in February 2019, the resolution proposes a transformation of the U.S. economy to enact major societal change and actively address climate change. Key among its goals is achieving economy-wide net zero greenhouse gas emissions and establishing millions of high-wage jobs.

Big Ideas Take Center Stage at the Yale Environmental Dialogue

Big ideas for the future of sustainability were the focus of this month’s Yale Environmental Dialogue Symposium. The Symposium convened thought leaders from across sectors to formulate, discuss, and debate new ideas for solutions to today’s major environmental problems. Throughout the Symposium, participants generated ideas around the role of cities, the future of smallholder farms, how law can address the climate crisis, how we can shift our thinking to create equitable and lasting change, and more.

Dan Esty is the Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy (YCELP) and the Hillhouse Professor of Environmental Law and Policy. Dan sits down with Lucy Kessler, the YCELP Communications RA, to discuss his new article “Red Lights to Green Lights: From 20th Century Environmental Regulation to 21st Century Sustainability,” on the need to shift the approach toward environmental regulation to embrace a new sustainability strategy for the 21st century.

Rod joins Lucy Kessler to discuss the concept of “Clean Tax Cuts,” an idea that stems from Ronald Reagan’s supply-side tax cuts but is applied to the concept of climate pollution. Learn how this concept could accelerate profitable solutions, and drive down the cost of capital, while increasing supply and demand for clean energy.
