After graduating from Yale College in 1975, Alan Gabbay attended Harvard Law School where in 1977 he co-founded and was one of the editors-in-chief of the Harvard Environmental Law Review. He worked for over 35 years at the law firm of Sidley Austin LLP where he advised banks, hedge funds and insurance companies on complex financing transactions. He has maintained a keen interest in environmental matters and in that regard, in 2020 he served as a member of a Biden campaign committee that focused on financial regulation and the environment. He also served as a volunteer in connection with other election campaigns. The pandemic provided him with the opportunity to develop the website “Great Public Land Destinations Chicago and Beyond” (https://www.50chicagoareahikesbikesbites.com/index.cfm) which features fifty places on public lands to hike or bicycle ride within a fifty mile radius of Chicago. He has mentored several young attorneys through a program sponsored by the Illinois Supreme Court.
