Environmental Law and Animal Protection: Reconnecting the Humane Ethic with Environmentalism in the Fight Against Climate Change

Event time:
Tuesday, December 1, 2015 - 1:00pm
Location:
Sterling Law Building Rm 128 See map New Haven, CT
Event description:

Please join Yale Environmental Law Association and Yale Animal Law Society (A Student Animal Legal Defense Fund Chapter) for a conversation with Jonathan Lovvorn, chief counsel for the Humane Society of the United States. Drawing on years of litigating and teaching environmental and animal protection issues, Mr. Lovvorn will argue that advocates for both causes must find common ground in the face of the coming climate crisis. To help redefine climate change as an overarching national challenge—one that transcends the traditional labels of environmentalism, animal welfare, and public health—Mr. Lovvorn will explore the historical connection between the environmental and animal protection movements, and their shared views on the intrinsic value of all living beings. He will then explain how these traditionally distinct groups can join together to broaden the community of climate stakeholders and facilitate collective action on an existential threat.

Vegan lunch will be served.
