Measurement Tools for a Regeneration Path: Introductory Keynote by Dan Esty

Center Director Dan Esty appeared as the introductory keynote speaker to the “Measurement Tools for a Regeneration Path” panel discussion, hosted by the alliance Regeneration 20|30.  Esty spoke about the importance of business performance measurement tools in the sustainability sector, and the improvements required to better measure the long-term environmental impacts of committed companies.

Sue Biniaz: The Future of International Climate Cooperation

Sue Biniaz, a lecturer at Yale Law School and former lead climate lawyer for the U.S. State Department, joins Jhena Vigrass (YSE ’22) and Charles Harper (YSE ’22) to discuss what might lie in store for the Paris Agreement and international climate cooperation after the momentous events occurring later this week—namely the U.S. election and the official U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement.

"A Better Planet" Panel Highlights Three Ideas to Build a More Sustainable Future

This month marks the paperback release of A Better Planet: 40 Big Ideas for a Sustainable Future, a book edited by Center for Environmental Law & Policy Director Dan Esty and featuring 40 contributions from sustainability leaders at Yale and around the world. In celebration of the release, the Yale Environmental Dialogue convened a panel with three contributors to the book, held on Tuesday, October 6.

This June, four authors from “A Better Planet: Pathways to a Sustainable Future” joined Center Director Dan Esty, Yale FES Dean Indy Burke, and special guest UN Ambassador Marco Antonio Suazo to discuss how the lessons from “A Better Planet” can be used to address today’s environmental challenges.

Christiana Figueres Receives 2020 Honorary Degree

The Center would like to express our deepest congratulations to Christiana Figueres, an internationally recognized leader on global climate change,  who will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to signal her achievement and immense contribution to environmental and social activism.  As executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, she worked across national boundaries and competing interests to galvanize nearly two hundred countries as parties to the Paris Agreement.  

In 2016 at an event hosted by the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies Ms. Figueres discussed the urgent new phase necessary in the fight to curb global warming.  She also joined Center Director Dan Esty to discuss  the Paris Climate Agreement in a studio interview.  Click here to view their discussion.

Virtual Yale Business Sustainability Summit Commemorates Earth Day

On April 15, the Yale Business Sustainability Summit marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day with a virtual discussion that convened CEOs and corporate sustainability thought leaders to discuss the evolving role of business in addressing society’s sustainability challenges.

Dan Esty, Hillhouse Professor of Environmental Law and Policy, and Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Lester Crown Professor in the Practice of Management and senior associate dean for leadership studies at the Yale School of Management, hosted the event.
