Joseph A. MacDougald

Joseph A. MacDougald is a Professor in Residence and the Strasser Fellow in Environmental Law at the UConn School of Law, where he is also the Executive Director of the Center for Energy & Environmental Law (CEEL) and the Director of the LLM program in Energy & Environmental Law. Some of his recent courses include: Environmental Law, Climate Law, Renewable Energy, and Constitutional Law. He also regularly manages the CEEL Externship clinic, placing students in real world environmental positions.

Joseph also serves as a Director of Applied Research and member of the Executive Board for the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation – a joint academic and state enterprise to make Connecticut more climate resilient through science and policy.

Professor MacDougald has held many elected or appointed offices in Madison, CT, including Selectman and Acting First Selectman, PZC Chairman, and most recently Chairman of the Board of Finance. Prior to joining academia, Professor MacDougald had a full corporate career as a General Counsel and then President of an international biomaterials company. He holds an: AB in Mathematics from Brown University, an MBA from New York University, a JD from University of Connecticut Law School, and an MEM from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
