What’s Next for The Paris Climate Change Agreement?

The Paris Agreement entered in into force with record-breaking speed on 4 November 2016; less than a year after its adoption.

In this talk, Professor Christina Voigt will explain (some of) the reasons for this rapid entry into force as well as its consequences. She will also give a snapshot of the UN climate negotiations after the latest summit in Marrakech, November 2016, as well as discuss with the audience expectations for the future development of the international climate regime.

Christina Voigt is Professor of Law at the University of Oslo, Department of Public and International Law, and coordinator for environmental research at ´Pluricourts´ - Center of Excellence at the Faculty of Law, University of Oslo. 

Professor Voigt is an expert in international environmental law, with a particular emphasis on climate change and sustainable development law, and a prolific author on these topics. Her latest publications deal with questions of differentiation between states, the standard of care in the Paris Agreement, as well as the design of the compliance mechanism of the Agreement. For the last 10 years, Professor Voigt has been principal legal advisor to and negotiator for the Norwegian Government in the UN climate negotiations. She is Norway´s lead negotiator on REDD+ and on compliance under the Paris Agreement.
