Mary Anne Hitt directs the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal
Campaign, which works to replace coal with clean energy by
mobilizing activists in local communities. Beyond Coal has been
recognized as one of the most successful environmental and
climate campaigns in history. In 2015 Mary Anne was named to
Politico’s list of 50 thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming
American politics. Mary Anne previously served as the executive
director of Appalachian Voices. She grew up in the mountains of
eastern Tennessee and now lives with her family in West Virginia.
